As my first official article, I thought I would get the dirt behind a classic tune from the 90's.  Well...I guess you could really categorize the 90's with "Post 80's Leftovers" and "I'm ready for '00", but that's not the point.  Maybe it is.  Either way, this falls under the "Post 80's Leftovers" section.  Perhaps you remember the hit song "Rico Suave".  If you do, then perhaps you'd like to take a trip with me to learn what it's about.  Come on, we'll hold hands.  It'll be fun...

 

Now, it took me a while to dig up this archaic nugget of gold from YouTube.  Alright, not really.  It took me less than 2 seconds. So what's Rico Suave about?  That's a funny question, and I'm glad you asked, musical cosmonaut!  Rico Suave was a song written by the artist Gerardo.  It features some classy spanish horns, or morracas or something.  

 

 Halfway through the song, I realized I coudn't really follow along because I don't speak a whole lot of the espanol.  That wouldn't stop me though, I knew I had to dig to find the meaning behind the song.  Before I proceed, let me hit you up with the video so you can check it out:

 

 

 

 So here's the lowdown, Gerardo is lookin' for his long lost friend known as Smooth Rico.  Smooth Rico is the missing person in Gerardo's entorage, which is why at the beginning of the video he's only dancing with two fellows.  You'll also note that at one point they have to fight off invisible ninjas with dancing Karate at the 20 second mark.  VERY EFFECTIVE!

One of the ways that young Gerardo attempts to find Smooth Rico is by continually exposing his bare chest.  Perhaps it's like the bat signal or something, I don't know.  What I do know, is that he has to point out that his big leather jacket is too hot for the summer day, and he's gotta kinda take it off.  Whatever...

Also present are the token scantily clad ladies.  These young lookers are used to lure Smooth Rico back to Gerardo's compound.  I'm not really sure why, I think they might be friends, or possible long-lost brothers.  I'll tell you what though, I think I figured out who Smooth Rico really is.  It took a bit of digging but the leather jacket on a bare chest whilst wearing tight jeans led me to only one possible person.  I think you'll totally see why Gerardo is looking for him too.
