Two weeks ago, I had only heard of Peggle in passing, and I want to say I read about it on Penny Arcade. Regardless, I was bored one day and decided to jump onto Xbox Live Arcade and see what they had to offer. Knowing nothing of the world of Peggle, I fell head first into an addiction that I just can't seem to kick. It doesn't have guns, there aren't any zombies for me to shoot, nor do I learn magic. So what exactly does Peggle offer that's so addicting? Rainbows. Freakin' Rainbows.
Allow me to talk about the basic premise of Peggle for a moment. The object of the game is to clear a screen out of orange "pegs". I think they're pegs anyway. All I know is that they're my mortal enemy. There are blue pegs, and orange pegs...

Basically, you clear the screen of the orange pegs and you win. Fairly simple, but there's more to the game than that. What more could there possibly be? How about a retarded unicorn for starters...

This guy, this stupid unicorn thing, is your first mentor into the world of Peggle. I've gotta be honest though I found it really difficult to listen to what he was saying because, well, look at him. Look at him! If you can get past the magical unicorn with the stupid gaze in his eye, you'll do fine. Not only that, but you're gonna catch a fever, and it's so extreme that there's no amount of cow bell in the world that can cure it. That's right, it's EXTREME FEVER!

When you clear the last orange peg, the screen alerts you that you're now sick with EXTREME FEVER and as far as I can tell the only cure for it is a rainbow. Before you can get to the rainbow though, your ball has to fall into one of 5 strategically placed magic portals at the bottom of the screen that award you with more points. Points are good, but I like all the stars and sparkles that show up. It's MAGIC to the max!

You'll note that the retarded unicorn is still watching blissfully above you. Anyway, after you get the bonus points you're then awarded with the cure to your EXTREME FEVER. You're given a rainbow...

I'm not exactly sure why, but when this rainbow shows up I have to yell "RAAAAAAAAAAINBOOOOOOOOW" out loud. True story. I really do that. There's just something about it that gets me all excited. It's ridiculous, I know, but I get excited when I see this screen. The colors work really well and maybe that's what draws me in.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
Also included in this game are secret spies, looking to thwart your peg removing process. From what I can gather, you are the chosen one sent to remove the cancerous pegs from the magical land of Peggleopollus. These spies are hard to see sometimes. Not to worry, I can totally help you out:

Peggle is a happy game and it's got tons of little features to keep you playing. There are challenges, a mode where you take on the mentors (including Taridcorn) and even multiplayer. All in all, there's enough here to keep you occupied. It's rather addicting, and I find myself playing it rather than saving the world from zombies. Crazy, I know. But hey, if you check it out you'll be making at least one person happy...

Of course, if you decide you don't want to play the game you're going to make Tardicorn sad...

And now, I'm going to back to playing Peggle.
